Book formats

The books will be sent to the digitisation company based on their format so that constant changes in the scanning set up do not interfere with the work flow. The formats vary greatly, from small almanacs to large picture books.

File formats

After many years of using the TIFF group 4 format as master file, we have decided to use another format for this project and the master files should be delivered (per page) in JPEG or JPEG2000. This decision was based on the wish to scan the pages in greyscale or colour and the TIFF format creates files that would be too large.

Derivatives

In addition to master files, many other derivative files will be supplied, which are necessary for the website, such as text files in XML format, smaller JPEG files for images and PDF files to present entire books/documents. A total of 6.5 million files will be produced for the DPO project.

The master files will be permanently stored in the E-Depot of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek.
